Stirling Council was granted Scottish Government funding of 80% of £29million for a 1 in 200 year standard of protection flood alleviation scheme. This was based on the results of a 2014 Optioneering report which looked at different flood mitigation options in the River Forth area.
The scheme aims to protect properties and roads from flooding from the River Forth along Riverside, Raploch, Cornton, Bridgehaugh and Queenshaugh. Below is a map illustrating the area taken into consideration.
As part of these works, Stirling Council has commissioned several data collection surveys. These include ground investigation works, ground-penetrating radar survey (to detect public utilities), topographic and threshold surveys, UAV survey, constraints mapping, phase 1 habitat survey and the upgrading of our hydraulic model to incorporate the most recent flood events.
The Stirling Flood Alleviation Scheme also falls within the Council's wider River Masterplan.
We are now looking to continue with our data collection to allow us to come to a preliminary design option. However, we have recently been given new guidance from the government on the funding which means we are now able to look at a lower level standard of the protection scheme. This work is currently underway to determine if a lower standard of protection is feasible.
We have recently undertaken further threshold surveys, tree survey, preliminary bat roost inspection, geomorphology walkover, contaminated land, drainage and utility walkover. We are also due to commence ground water monitoring.
Once potential alignment options are identified we will be undertaking stakeholder engagement and look forward to hearing the community's thoughts. The results of this consultation will then feed into detail design stage.
We would also welcome any information anyone has of previous flooding in the area. These can be emailed in to flooding@stirling.gov.uk

The delayed ground water monitoring works have now been rescheduled to commence week commencing July 27th 2020.
