It is the first time Stirling Council’s meetings have ever been streamed live and the new service will offer residents the chance to witness proceedings first-hand from the comfort of their own home.

Stirling Council Leader, Councillor Scott Farmer, said: “This is local democracy live and it’s a major milestone in making our meetings as accessible as possible to our residents while COVID-19 restrictions are still in place.

“People will once again be able to watch the decisions that matter to them and their communities, as they happen, live.”

Recordings still availableSince March 2020, all Council, committee and panel meetings have been held remotely on Microsoft Teams and published on Stirling Council’s YouTube channel after business has been concluded.

All meetings will now be broadcast live at Stirling Council’s YouTube page, with a recording of the meeting still being made available after the fact.

Depute Leader, Councillor Chris Kane, said: “It is important that local democracy is both transparent and accessible which is why the move to live streaming of Council meetings is a welcome step back toward normality.

“We also recognise that a 10am start time for most Council meetings precludes many people from attending; which is why we’ll continue to record meetings and make them available at a time that suits you.”

The first meeting broadcast was the Planning and Regulation Panel held at 10am on Tuesday, 5 October.

Next up is a meeting of Full Council at 10am on Thursday, 7 October where members will discuss business including the Community Council Scheme of Establishment and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Details of the various Stirling Council committees and the dates on which they meet are available on our website, as are committee agendas.
