Road closed signs block entry to the A809 Catterburn Bridge

The A809 is closed from the junction of the B834 to the junction of the A811 as an essential safety measure to allow emergency repair work, following the collapse of a parapet wall on the bridge on Thursday, 30 September.

No through traffic of any sort will be permitted to cross the bridge for safety reasons and assessments are currently being undertaken to determine the full extent of the damage and ascertain what repairs are needed.

A diversion route is in place via the B834 and A81 to Ballat Crossroads, with high-sided vehicles diverted via the B834 and A875 through Killearn and Balfron.

Public transport, school transport, bin collections and winter maintenance gritting will continue on the affected routes.

Convenor of Stirling Council’s Environment and Housing Committee, Councillor Jim Thomson, said: “We understand the disruption this will cause to local residents and business, and we want to assure everyone that we are doing all that we can to progress a solution as quickly as possible.”

Vice Convenor, Councillor Danny Gibson: “This road closure is an essential safety measure. We appreciate the inconvenience the diversions will cause to individuals and businesses, and we will remain in contact with the local community to provide regular updates on progress.”

More info on the road closure is available on the Emergency Road Closures section of our website.
