The fishing season will once again cast off on the Rivers Forth and Teith, although this year will be slightly different with no opening celebrations on Monday due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently angling is still permitted under the Government’s Covid-19 restrictions and is available to anyone in the Stirling Council area.
Follow the Government rules
Angling activity should be restricted to individuals, household groups or no more than two people from two households, suitably distanced.
Gatherings for fishing competitions, club outings or group meetings are not permitted under the current restrictions.
If anglers do not reside within Stirling or no more than 5 miles of the boundary then they should not travel to visit or fish on Stirling Council managed fisheries.
Be safe and protect our fishing communities
Stirling Council Fisheries Manager Scott Mason said: “We are sad that we can't currently welcome our friends from all over the UK to join us to celebrate the new season.
“However, it is important that we all continue to be safe, protect the NHS and follow the current Coronavirus restriction and measures that are in place.
"We ask that anglers stay as close to home as possible – within the Stirling Council Area, or no more than five miles from the boundary – and stay away from crowded places.
“We look forward to brighter days where we can welcome everyone back to the riverbank.”
Angling offers many health benefits
Stirling Council’s Vice Convener for Environment and Housing, Councillor Danny Gibson said: “We know that anglers from all across the country visit our shores to experience some of the best fishing the UK has to offer.
“Angling is a healthy outdoor activity which is beneficial for both our mental and physical wellbeing.
“Our beats offer some of the best fishing the UK has to offer, but anyone who uses our beats must continue to follow Government guidelines.
“It is essential that these rules continue to be followed to protect not only anglers, but also the angling communities surrounding our rivers and our staff.”
