Commuters using either of Stirling Council’s Park and Ride sites can now travel for free, saving both money and the environment.
Park and Ride

The Council is offering travellers the chance to use bus services at Castleview and Springekerse free of charge as part of their commitment to protecting the environment and developing sustainable transport.

With the free P1 and P2 bus services once again running a full timetable, they offer a quick, convenient and frequent way to travel into and around Stirling.

Get on board for free

Offering free parking at both the Springkerse and Castleview sites, as well as EV Charging infrastructure, road users will be able to plug in and hop on board to visit key locations around Stirling, including:

P1 Springkerse P&R service – travel to the city centre, The Peak, Springkerse Retail Park and the Vue cinema.

P2 Castleview P&R service – travel to the city centre, top of the town and Stirling Castle.

Additional safety measures will be in place on the buses, including markings to advise passengers of social distancing and hand sanitisers. All passengers will also be required to wear a face covering in line with current Scottish Government restrictions.

Save money and protect the environment

Convener of Stirling Council’s Environment and Housing Committee, Councillor Jim Thomson, said: “We are delighted to offer residents and visitors an opportunity to benefit from free park and ride journeys at both Springkerse and Castleview.

“These bus services will make it easier for people to access the city centre, visit some of Stirling’s key locations and contribute to the local economy.

“Drivers will be able to simply park their vehicles, wear a face covering and get straight on the bus, helping themselves save money and helping protect the environment into the bargain.”

The project was awarded £95,000 by Smarter Choices, Smarter Places (SCSP) which is Paths for All’s programme to increase active and sustainable travel throughout Scotland. The programme is grant-funded by Transport Scotland.

Making Stirling more accessible for everyone

Vice Convener, Councillor Danny Gibson, said: “By encouraging more people to use bus travel, we are aiming to reduce the use of Stirling city centre as a through-route, thereby cutting traffic levels and congestion.

“We want to make Stirling more accessible for everyone while delivering on our goals to protect the environment and encourage more sustainable modes of transport, and I would encourage all commuters to make the most of this great offer.”

SCSP manager at Paths for All, Stuart Douglas, said: “We are really pleased to be supporting this initiative through our Smarter Choices, Smarter Places programme which helps local authorities across Scotland encourage more journeys by foot, bike or sustainable transport.

“The free park and ride service offers a great alternative to travelling in and around Stirling by car and will help reduce traffic and congestion as well as improve the local environment.”
