Stirling Council has today (9 June) shared the latest information on the re-opening of schools and nurseries in a letter to parents and carers.

The letter has been emailed to families and it can also be viewed on the Stirling Council website.

Following the Scottish Government announcement about the phased route out of lockdown, the local authority has been progressing its plans for the safe return of children and young people to its schools and early learning settings.

While this remains a fast-moving and complex situation, the latest details on these arrangements are included in the letter.

Among the key points are:

  • All Stirling Council schools will re-open on August 11.
  • We have been advised by Scottish Government that early learning and childcare settings may have the option of re-opening before schools return.
  • Our plan is that from August there will be a model of blended learning with pupils attending school on some days and learning at home on others.
  • We will be putting in measures in place to support pupils who require digital devices.
  • Teachers, early years practitioners and other staff have been returning to schools and other early learning and childcare settings in small groups from 1 June to plan and prepare for the reopening of schools and nurseries.
  • Individual schools, nurseries and heads of establishment will continue to be the main source of contact with parents and carers about transitioning arrangements for pupils moving to primary or secondary schools in the new term.

Regularly update

Convener of the Council’s Children and Young People Committee, Cllr Susan McGill said: “We know how difficult and disruptive the pandemic has been for families across Stirling and we appreciate their patience and support during these unprecedented times.

“While all our arrangements have yet to be finalised for the re-opening of schools and nurseries, it’s important we continue to regularly update parents, carers and young people with our plans and we will provide further information as soon as possible.”

A clearer picture

Vice Convener, Cllr Christine Simpson said: “We know parents, carers and pupils have many questions about the school and nursery experience when they re-open and hopefully this letter will provide a clearer picture.

“Our staff have risen to the challenge magnificently throughout this crisis and they are now working hard in our schools and early learning settings to put in place enriching, enjoyable and safe learning environments to ensure our children and young people can continue to achieve their potential.”
