Stirling Council has appealed for local business to follow strict Covid-19 closure rules and help protect public health during the national emergency.
Stirling Council Coronavirus Update

New Scottish Government Regulations require businesses that are not permitted to operate during the pandemic to remain closed to limit the spread of Coronavirus. Failure to comply with the Regulations is an offence and can lead to a fine for businesses.

Officers from Stirling Council will engage with local businesses to ensure they understand the new Regulations and that they are fully complying with these. Where necessary, Stirling Council will enforce the closure of business premises to protect public health.

Engagement and enforcement

Convener of Stirling Council’s Finance and Economy Committee, Councillor Margaret Brisley, said: “It is essential that Stirling businesses comply with the new regulations to limit the spread of coronavirus.

“We will be engaging with businesses across the region, providing advice and guidance on what they need do to comply with them.

“These are very difficult and challenging times for all, but I am sure our businesses understand the need for all but essential premises to remain closed during this national emergency, to protect public health and limit the spread of Coronavirus.

“Our officers will engage with businesses to support and advise where possible. All businesses must comply with the Government Regulations. Enforcement action will be taken against businesses who fail to comply with the regulations, but I hope that this will not be required.”

Businesses or services that are considered essential services, including food retailers and pharmacies, can continue operating as long as they fully comply with the Regulations and ensure that they have social distancing measures in place for both staff and customers.

Vice Convener, Councillor Alison Laurie, said: “We want to engage with local businesses in a positive and constructive way to ensure businesses comply with the national restrictions. It is vital that businesses act in a responsible way and follow the new measures to protect public health and reduce the spread of the virus. Council officers will, as a last resort, use their enforcement powers to close any business premises failing to comply with the Regulations.”
