Gartmore Primary School has earned praise after receiving a positive inspection report from Education Scotland.
Gartmore PS Positive Report

The school, which serves Gartmore village and the surrounding area, was inspected over two days in April 2019.

It received a ‘very good’ rating for both areas of its assessment - learning, teaching and assessment, and raising attainment and achievement.

Inspectors highlighted a range of strengths in the school. These included:

  • A strong staff team that work very well together and provide high-quality education for every child, leading to highly motivated pupils
  • Children having a clear understanding of sustainability and their responsibility in caring for the natural world
  • Very effective use of digital technologies across the curriculum
  • Outdoor learning experiences which contribute to a strong partnership between the school and community.

Extremely proud

Headteacher at the school, Fiona Buchanan said: “I am delighted that the school has been recognised by Education Scotland as ‘very good’.

“Our school community works closely alongside the wider community of Gartmore to support the learning and opportunities for all of our young people at Gartmore Primary.

“We are extremely proud of everything we have achieved so far and look forward to continuing to build on our solid base.”

The report was presented to elected members at last week’s (26 Sep) meeting of Stirling Council’s Children and Young People Committee.

Dedication of staff

Convener of the committee, Cllr Susan McGill said: “Congratulations to everyone involved at Gartmore Primary School on this impressive report from Education Scotland, which shows the dedication of staff is enabling children to develop key skills to help them fulfil their potential.

“It was particularly pleasing to see inspectors praise the school’s ongoing work in sustainability and outdoor learning as an example of good practice worth sharing.”

A letter from Education Scotland stated that it would make no more visits to the school in connection with the inspection given their confidence in the school’s capacity to improve.

High standards

Vice Convener of the committee, Cllr Margaret Brisley said: “This report demonstrates the high standards being achieved at the school and contains a range of positive findings.

“The school’s staff and the wider community should be really proud of this inspection and it’s fantastic to see our schools and nurseries continuing to shine during these external evaluations.”

Education Scotland identified two areas of improvement for the school, which has a roll of 26, following discussions with the headteacher.

  • Continue developing its approaches to assessment and the recording of skills to help children make further progress
  • Maintain, as planned, improvement in the level of challenge for all pupils.
