The school community rallied together to raise £4,500 to purchase the VeloPlus bike which allows pupils to be transported while seated in their own wheelchair.
Among the fundraising events they organised was a successful ‘Rock, So We Can Roll’ night in the summer at Stirling Rugby Club, with live bands and a ceilidh.
The bike, secured from a local supplier, allows children to maximise outdoor play in the school grounds, which includes a wheelchair swing and roundabout.
Sense of freedom
Headteacher at Castleview, an additional support needs school, Elaine Murray said: "The children are very keen to be on the bike, it gives them such a sense of freedom and they love speeding along in the wind.
“We have very recently received a Gold School sports award and it is activities such as getting out and about on the bikes which will help us maintain it.
“Thank you to everyone who made it possible to get the bike through all their hard work and fundraising efforts.”
