Stirling Council’s annual Private Rented Sector Open Day has once again proven a key attraction after local landlords and agents snapped up every ticket.
Key in Lock

The popular free event celebrates its seventh year at Stirling’s Albert Halls on Wednesday 15th May, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, and the opportunity is still there to be added to the reserve list.

The Open Day offers a chance for delegates to hear from national experts in the private rented sector, seek advice and information, and share best practice.

Chief Officer – Housing - Lorna Cameron said: “This is always a popular event and it’s great to see such a positive response from the sector.

“The private rented sector has seen significant transformation with the introduction of a new tenancy regime, changes in taxation and other regulatory requirements. We recognise that private renting plays an important role in ensuring a well-functioning housing market, and so it is vital that both landlords and tenants feel supported to manage these changes.

“We are pleased to provide an opportunity for our landlords and agents to hear from expert speakers and to share best practice. Last year’s event was very well attended and I’m certain the upcoming Open Day will prove just as successful.”

Speakers include:
  • Scottish Association of Landlords Chief Executive, John Blackwood – discussing the impact so far of the Private Residential Tenancy.
  • Home Energy Scotland, Stephen McAlaney – providing an update on the minimum energy efficiency standards.
  • Chiene + Tait Chartered Accountants, John Rodger – providing an overview of the recent tax reforms affecting Private Landlords.
  • Wise Property Care, William Mulgrew – speaking about the practicalities of dealing with dampness and condensation.

Various agencies and services will also attend the Open Day to provide expert advice and information, as part of a dedicated exhibition area. They include Home Energy Scotland, Scottish Fire Service, Shelter Scotland, Stirling City Heritage, Scottish Association of Landlords, Landlord Accreditation Scotland, and a number of Stirling Council Services.
