The community around the school have knitted a blanket made entirely from pom poms to send to the charity Hand in Hand for Aid and Development, after primary three pupil Kayleigh Hamill was inspired to help make a difference after being moved by a donation appeal she saw on TV.
A group of local mums with children at the school came up with the idea to construct a blanket made out of pom poms for the Knit for Syria campaign to help make Kayleigh’s campaign dream become a reality.
The whole Cornton community were able to get involved by making individual pom poms which were then sewn together by the school to make one large blanket.
Louise Samphier, Headteacher at Cornton Primary School said “This project demonstrates the supportive ethos here at Cornton Primary school.
“When children are motivated to make a difference in the world we listen and enable their ideas to become a reality. Cornton Primary school are very proud of Kayleigh and everyone involved who understood the inequalities around the world and wanted to make a difference with this beautiful blanket.”
The charity Hand in Hand for Aid and Development (HIHFAD) (previously Hand in Hand for Syria) regularly transport knitted and crocheted items to Syria where they are distributed to internally displaced people, or to children in hospitals.
