More than 70 per cent of our staff are female and 59% of our managerial posts are occupied by women.
Over 60 per cent of our Apprentices are also female and the most recent analysis of our gender pay gap shows a 0.07% swing in favour of women, underlining our commitment to equality in the workforce.
Yesterday, we announced our delight in appointing Carol Beattie as our first ever female Chief Executive following a rigorous recruitment process, and we are proud to have a workforce bolstered by strong women across our services, working for the betterment of our communities.
Stirling Council Leader, Cllr Scott Farmer, said: “We thank all the women who work for Stirling Council for their contribution to delivering our diverse range of services to the people in our communities.
“A diverse workforce is something we are proud of at Stirling Council.
“Whether it be delivering education or support to our young people through our schools and care services, or overseeing planning and assets, procurement and our human resources departments, the women in our workforce are an integral part of the organisation and help make us who we are.”
Stirling Council’s Civic head – Provost Christine Simpson – chairs all Full Council meetings and four of the local authority’s democratic committees are also headed up by female councillors:
- Children and Young People – Cllrs Susan McGill and Margaret Brisley
- Finance and Economy – Cllrs Margaret Brisley and Alison Laurie
- Housing – Cllr Evelyn Tweed
- Public Safety – Cllr Maureen Bennison
Cllr Margaret Brisley, Convenor of Finance & Economy Committee, said: “Days like today are designed to highlight the struggles and battles women still face across the world, but also help showcase the true success stories.
“Stirling Council is one of those success stories with a strong female workforce right across our services. We will always campaign for equal rights for all, and I’m proud of the work we do to promote that in Stirling.”
