Elite athletes from around the world will make their way to the city for a week of action-packed sports at the PEAK Leisure Village from March 3 – 10, with tickets for the events now on sale.
Backed by funding from Stirling Council, UK Sport, EventScotland, and the World Curling Federation, the 2019 Championships showcase the best Wheelchair Curlers from around the globe.
The tournament will also showcase more than 10 nations competing for the first time since 2006, and its arrival in Stirling at The PEAK will underline the City’s ability to continue to attract events with a global appeal.
Cllr Chris Kane, convenor of the Community Planning and Regeneration Committee said: “The top-class events just keep coming for Stirling, and this one really ranks up there with the best of them.
“This city is writing its own history now as we build on events like the Stirling Marathon and Great XCountry Run, and I’m very proud for us to help host such a prestigious sporting spectacle.
“These Championships will bring a boost to Stirling’s reputation as an events location and I’d encourage everyone who is coming to Stirling for the competition to take time to sample the unique sights and settings we have to offer.”
Teams will travel to Stirling from as far afield as China and Korea to take part in the action in the coming weeks, making the City a hub of international activity.
Delegates from the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics organizing committee will also be in attendance, observing the event from a best practice perspective, as they build towards the upcoming Winter Games.
Cllr Maureen Bennison, vice convenor of the Community Planning committee added: “This is just a glimpse of the impact these types of events can have on our communities.
“Not only is it great for Stirling’s profile, but businesses across a range of industries will see a welcome boost to trade as the weather starts to turn from winter into spring around this time.
“There’s also a real sense of pride in welcoming an event that showcases the inclusivity of sport, and I hope communities across Stirling take the chance to watch this inspiring event on their doorstep.”
Tickets are on sale now and the tournament is the first opportunity for the competing nations to gain vital qualification points for the 2022 Paralympic Games in Beijing.
The 12 Nations competing this year are Scotland, Norway, Russia, China, Canada, Korea, United States, Switzerland, Germany, Estonia, Slovakia, and Latvia.
