Work will begin this Monday (September 2nd) on the B829 as part of a £420,000 upgrade to Stirling’s rural road network.
Road Work Sign

The work on the B829 between Blairuskinmore and Kinlochard will result in a significant upgrade of the road, which currently suffers considerable congestion in heavy traffic due to its narrow width and lack of suitable passing places.

Improvements will be carried out near Blairuskinmore and will include:

  • Upgrading existing passing places.
  • Constructing a new passing place.
  • Road widening.
  • Upgrading the drainage systems alongside and under the road.
  • Levelling and strengthening the road.
  • Resurfacing approx. 1.5km of road.

Stirling Council secured nearly £250,000 of Scottish Government funding to undertake the project. The award (£244,808) will be drawn from the Strategic Timber Transport Fund (STTF), managed by Scottish Forestry, which co-finances projects to improve rural roads throughout Scotland.

Stage 1 - September 2nd

The initial stage on Monday involves work on the passing places, widening works and drainage works, and will take approximately four weeks.

These works will be constructed as far as possible under temporary traffic lights, with only occasional short periods when the road may be closed.

Stage 2 - September 30th (Provisional)

The strengthening and resurfacing works will follow when the initial stage is completed. They are provisionally scheduled to begin on Monday 30th September.

There will be two days’ work at Altskeith Corner, which will involve resurfacing a short worn out section of carriageway, followed by around 12 days at Blairuskinmore.

The works at this location will involve the construction of an additional layer of surfacing, strengthened by the installation of a geo-grid to ensure the new section of carriageway is capable of supporting heavy timber extraction vehicles.

Community Engagement

We are keen to hold a Community Engagement meeting as soon as possible to ensure that everyone affected is aware of our proposed work methodology for this stage of the project and to give us time to take account of any feedback provided.

We are working with the Strathard Community Council to finalise a date, time and venue acceptable to the local community and will provide an update once the meeting details are confirmed.
