Stirling Council Libraries are seeking volunteers to help out for a couple of hours each week to support others to develop their I.T. skills.

I.T. & ME drop-in sessions run in a number of libraries and allow people to solve basic I.T. problems and learn new digital skills.

Sessions are free of charge and people learn at their own pace, in a relaxed environment supported by volunteers and library staff.

An I.T. & ME volunteer would ideally have experience of using PCs for the internet, email and Office packages, be confident in using mobile devices for downloading and using apps such as Facebook and BBC iPlayer.

Why Volunteer?

Stirling Council Senior Manager for Economic Growth, Tourism, Culture and Events, Stuart Oliver, said: “Stirling libraries do a magnificent job in our communities and are hugely popular among citizens. By maximising the opportunities for our residents to access new technology, the service is seeking to ensure libraries will continue to perform an essential role for future generations.

“We want to make Stirling alive with volunteering and we’ll achieve this with a vibrant year-long Festival of Volunteering in 2020 that involves all our communities.

“By volunteering to help others learn the benefits of I.T. you can discover the feel-good factor that volunteering brings while providing an invaluable service to people in your local community, helping extend access to opportunities that will benefit them in both their personal and professional lives.”

What experience do you need?

The library service is looking for people who are available for at least two hours a week on a regular basis. Volunteers will be invited for an informal chat to discuss their suitability to the role, and if successful will be asked for references and a Basic Disclosure check will be carried out. Induction and training will be offered as part of the role and travel expenses will be paid.

Where and when can you volunteer?

Opportunities are available in several libraries across Stirling and the service would aim to match you with your local branch. Free I.T. & ME drop-in sessions are currently being run at the following locations:
