The Council’s commitment to investing in education and the provision of high-quality teaching space saw it invest £1.864 million to improve and refurbish the school, with work beginning in September 2017.

Temporary arrangements to accommodate pupils at McLaren High School during the works were due to end for the start of the 2018/19 academic year.

However, severe winter weather and construction issues saw the planned entry date moved back until the October holidays.

Due to circumstances outside the Council’s control, the works are now not expected to be completed until late October/early November, with the school community moving in for the week commencing December 17.

Transport arrangements for pupils travelling from Strathyre Primary School catchment area to Callander will remain in place until all pupils and staff have returned to the new school.

The Council recognises this further delay to completing the works at Strathyre Primary School will come as a disappointment to pupils, parents and families.

Until the new school is ready, the council will continue to ensure pupils’ educational needs are met and will do its utmost to minimise disruption.

Convener of the Children and the Young People Committee, Councillor Susan McGill said: “This long-term project will deliver extensive refurbishments and improvements which will make the school a modern and fulfilling environment to learn in and provide the community with a fantastic facility.

“Stirling Council is working with contractors to ensure the completion of the works at the school to the highest possible standard and we are putting in every required resource to achieve this goal.

“Council staff are also on site regularly in order that the works are being delivered according to specifications and to check on progress.

“As we approach completion, key furniture and equipment deliveries are now on site to fit out classrooms.

“To ensure a clean handover, we will use this additional time for thorough checks to ensure the new building is operational and ready for pupils and staff in December.

“Stirling Council would also like to thank the staff and pupils at McLaren High School for their co-operation and assistance in making everyone at Strathyre feel welcome in their temporary home.”

Notes: Stirling Council has invested £1.864 million to refurbish and improve Strathyre Primary School. The project provide additional teaching space and a sport, dining, and community area. It will remove existing modular accommodation and the need to transport pupils off site for physical education.
In addition to improving the educational environment, the refurbishment will allow for better energy efficiency and reduced operating costs in the future.
