Riverside Primary Shool Award

The school received a prestigious Excellence in Professional Learning Excellence Award from the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Broadcaster and musician Dougie Vipond chaired the event, which was also attended by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney.

Riverside Primary Headteacher, Kay Robertson, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award. It reflects the ethos of the school which is of staff at all levels being the key leaders of learning which in turn encourages the children themselves to take a lead role in leading initiatives within Riverside Primary.”

The school’s accolade, which they will hold for three years, reflected the central role that the leadership at all levels at Riverside play in creating and sustaining professional learning environments, where teacher professionalism can flourish and bring about sustained impact on learning and learners.

The Excellence in Professional Learning Award celebrates and recognises schools and learning communities, which promote, support and lead professional learning, which has a significant and sustained impact on teachers, classroom practice and pupil learning.

Convener of the Children and Young People Committee, Councillor Susan McGill, said: “I would like to congratulate Riverside Primary on being presented with this prestigious and well-deserved award.

“The staff at all levels have shown a real commitment to professional learning and improvement, which has been shared and embraced by the wider school community, and this will ensure the children are well positioned to achieve their potential.”

The GTCS Excellence in Professional Learning Awards are a celebration of the best of professional practice in terms of professional learning and the promotion of a professional learning culture.
