Scotland was hit with high winds yesterday (Wednesday) as #StormAli swept the Nation and Stirling was no different.

Our Contact Centre was inundated with calls from the public who helpfully reported fallen trees and other hazards across the area.

With your help, here’s what our teams were able to do over the past two days:

We received in excess of 60 tree work requests which were all made safe by our Land and Roads teams working overtime until late evening yesterday and recommenced early this morning.

As of Thursday afternoon all routes were passable but we still have a few issues that are being worked on at present. These include:

A809 near Carbeth – Removing fallen tree – Road passable with care.

B818 Fintry to Blackhill – Removing Fallen tree – Road passable with care.

A811 approximately 300m east of Ballat crossroads – Large branch has dropped onto B.T. cables. The branch is low enough to be a hazard to vehicles therefore temporary traffic signals and a lane closure has been erected until the branch can be removed.

A number of minor roads still to be cleared but all of them are passable with care.

By the end of the day tomorrow (Friday) the clearance of all trees and debris should be complete.

A Stirling Council spokespersons said: “Wednesday painted a clear picture of what can happen when the area is struck by a storm while trees are in full leaf and there has been heavy rain.

“The Council always makes every effort to update the public prior to the arrival of such hazardous weather conditions and the major incidents which can subsequently follow in the wake of such events.

“We encourage residents to always heed the advice provided and we appreciate all those who contacted us to report matters of concern. This is vital in alerting the council services to issues in the area and helps us to resolve them more efficiently.

“Stirling Council would also like to thank its staff for their professionalism and dedication in difficult conditions to keep the roads clear and ensure the safety of residents.”
