The Care Inspectorate regulate and inspects all care services in Scotland and rated Wellgreen Nursery as ‘Very Good’ for both its quality of care and support, and quality of staffing.

The nursery, based in Stirling city centre, provides care to up to 34 children, aged from two to those attending primary school.

The report stated: “Children were very happy, confident and articulate, playing freely and excitedly with their friends and educators.

“There was a great sense of fun and laughter in the setting and it was clear that trusting, warm and nurturing relationships had been built between children, staff and families alike.

“The uninhibited and joyful interactions between staff and children created an environment of compassionate and respectful care alongside a welcoming and inclusive ethos for all.

“In addition, these interactions encouraged children to learn new things and the enabling attitude of the team towards children’s development was evident throughout.

“Everyone in the service was encouraged to have high expectations of what children and families could achieve and this supported staff to challenge children’s thinking and foster their independence.

“A strong ethos of the importance of play in children’s development ensured that there was a wide variety of experiences to support their learning and development.

“The staff in the service were committed, dedicated, professional and proactive in their approaches to early learning and childcare.”

From responses to questionnaires, the Inspectorate found that parents were very happy with the service their children received, especially when their children required additional support.

Inspectors added that they were pleased to see positive feedback from a range of people involved in the service.

The Head of Establishment at Wellgreen Nursery, Irene McPherson, said: “We are all absolutely thrilled with this report.  We are particularly pleased that the report recognises the commitment, hard work and professionalism of practitioners, values the contribution of all stakeholders and captures the nursery’s ethos, values and aspirations.”

“At Wellgreen, we aim to create an exciting and inspiring learning environment which engages children, families, educators and the wider community. We will continue to strive towards this vision to ensure our children are motivated to learn and develop a lifelong passion for inquiry and discovery.”

Convener of the Children and Young People Committee, Councillor Susan McGill, said: “Everyone at Wellgreen Nursery should be proud of this glowing report which highlights a host of positive findings, including the professionalism and dedication of staff.

“Staff have created a safe, secure and fun environment, where the children are happy, respected and challenged creatively in a range of activities to ensure they have the best start in life.”
