The deadline for submitting nomination papers for the Community Council Elections in Stirling is 4pm tomorrow (Friday, October 19). Anyone over 16 can take part.
There are 42 Community Councils in Stirling and they are the most local tier of elected representation, performing a vital democratic function. They represent local people, act as a voice for their area and work with others to improve services.
Community Councils across the area are involved in a wide range of activities and issues, including planning and licensing applications, bringing inspiring projects to life and passing on expertise
Councillor Chris Kane, Convener of the Community Planning and Regeneration Committee, said: “Since the start of the elections, we have heard about the importance of Community Councils and how they can make a real difference to their areas.
“Community Councils have been behind so many fantastic projects across Stirling that have brought lasting benefits to local people.
“Whether it’s creating beautiful open spaces, improving services or acting as a voice for their area on a wide variety of issues, Community Councils are vital in making Stirling a better place to live.
“This is why Stirling Council are committed to supporting and working with Community Councils.
“It’s important that a wide range of citizens participate in Community Councils so different opinions and ideas are heard, including young people.
“So long as you are over 16, you can get involved in a role that will be richly rewarding, provide you with different experiences and equip you with new skills.”
“Ahead of tomorrow’s deadline, I would urge anyone considering to stand for election to step forward and give it a go.”
To stand as a Community Councillor, you must live in your chosen community council area and be named on the electoral register in the area.
Nomination forms will be available online, the Council Office at Old Viewforth and all libraries.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 19, 2018.
