Councillors agreed on the move at this week’s meeting of the Children and Young People Committee. The consultation will run from December 3 to February 8, 2019.
A final consultation paper will be taken to April’s meeting of the committee where a decision on the school will be made.
Trossachs Primary, which operated a single teacher school serving the village of Brig o’Turk and the surrounding area, was mothballed in sessions 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19.
Prior to this, the roll at the school, whose capacity is 25, had declined to an average of seven pupils since 2013/14.
This included some pupils living in the Callander Primary School catchment area who attended Trossachs Primary School through a placing request. By August 2016, the roll at the school had fallen to zero.
Once the school was mothballed, the catchment area of Callander Primary School was extended to include the area covered by Trossachs Primary School.
Future projections for the Trossachs Primary School catchment (using data provided by Forth Valley NHS) indicate that pupil numbers will remain static or decline over the next four years.
Convener of the Children and Young People Committee, Councillor Susan McGill said: “Since this process started we have fully engaged with the community to hear their views on the future of the school.
“This consultation will allow us to gather further information on the proposal to permanently close the school, which include the educational benefits for children and the impact on staff, parents and the wider community. We will also consider any alternatives.”
