Scott won both the LANTRA Land Based Learner of the Year Award for Fisheries Management & Environmental Conservation, and the Tam Tod Trophy for outstanding learner.

Scott, aged 17 from Cowie, is doing an SVQ Level 2 in Environmental Conservation through SRUC, while working for Stirling Council Fisheries.

He has taken on the role of surveying seal predation within the river Forth, delivering workshops to youngsters and engaging with council senior management to agree a new pricing structure.

LANTRA is the national training organisation for land-based and environmental industries, and their prestigious Learner of the Year Award celebrates the achievements of Scotland's top land-based and aquaculture learners. The awards were held in Dunblane on Wednesday 28th March.

The national competition, which receives nominations from across Scotland and allows those within the industry to recognise exceptional individuals, highlights exciting career opportunities on offer and shows the benefits to businesses of having highly skilled staff in these areas.

Scott’s line manager, Fisheries Officer Scott Mason, also won the LANTRA ‘Learner of the Year’ Award for Fisheries Management and Environmental Conservation in 2013.

Scott said: “This is a fantastic achievement and I’m very proud of Scott. It is further evidence of the talented workforce we have here in Stirling Council’s Fisheries Team.

“This is also the sixth time in the last seven years that we have been involved in the finals of this category.”

Environment Vice-convenor, Councillor Danny Gibson, said, “My congratulations go to Scott for winning this prestigious award. This is a fantastic recognition of the great work he has been doing in helping establish Stirling Council Fisheries as one of the best in Scotland.

"I’m incredibly proud of our publicly-owned fishery and Scott’s success is further evidence of the strong partnership working between the Council’s Learning and Employability Team and other services.”
