Education Scotland rated the school as ‘very good’ across four key areas of assessment.

The inspection team highlighted a number of strengths in the school including:

•    The very effective leadership of the headteacher who has established a culture of self-evaluation and improvement.
•    Children who are polite, eager to learn and who show respect for themselves, adults, their peers and the school.
•    The very positive learning culture based on shared values, led by the reflective staff team, where all staff and children care for and support each other.
•    The extensive range of learning experiences leading to improvements in children’s achievements.
•    The very creative use of food as a context for learning across all areas of the curriculum.

Convener of the Children and Young Person’s Committee, Councillor Susan McGill, said, “This is an excellent report for Doune Primary School and is testament to the dedication of the staff, hard work of pupils and support of parent and carers. I know the entire team at Doune is committed to continuing on this journey to ensure every child is supported to achieve their potential."

Headteacher Lyndsay Macnair added, “We are really proud of our school and what we achieve together. We are delighted that the inspectors have recognised our strengths and we are focused on continuing to develop to support all of our young people to attain and achieve.”

The school has committed to further develop approaches to learning and teaching to enable children to become more independent learners and to continue to improve attainment in literacy and numeracy for all children.

The ratings for the schools were applied against four specific areas - leadership of change; learning, teaching and assessment; raising attainment and achievement and ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion.
