The area is remote and experienced particularly severe weather, with accumulations of snow up to 4ft. Six homes were left trapped, one of which, located at Loch Walton, included elderly residents and a young child.
Stirling Council responded immediately after being alerted and provided teams and machinery on site to support the Trossachs Search and Rescue team to reach the residents as a matter of urgency.
JCB's attended the area to help clear a 7km length of road from the Carron Dam towards Fintry in order to reach the homes.
Thanks to the efforts of all teams, contact was made with the residents at Loch Walton, who were safe and well, and they were provided with food and water. Contact was then made with the other five homes as rescue teams sought to deliver supplies.
Chief Executive of Stirling Council, Stewart Carruth, said, “As soon as we were alerted to the situation we made provisions to help the residents in any way that we possibly could. I want to thank our teams for their fantastic efforts in helping respond so quickly and successfully to such a difficult situation, and also Trossachs Search and Rescue for getting supplies through to residents."
Stirling Council Leader, Councillor Scott Farmer, said, “This was a fantastic co-ordinated effort that saw teams from across a variety of services pull together to help families in need. We are proud of the efforts of our staff and the willingness they have shown to do all that is necessary to help residents in need due to the effects of the extreme winter weather.”
