Held at the Mayfield Centre, St Ninians, the conference provided an opportunity for tenants to find out about the Council’s housing services and the activities that the STA undertakes throughout the year to represent council tenants.

Delegates were also able to find out about the new Housing Management and Development Service, which replaces the previous housing services structure.

Among the day’s business included preparations for the formation of a new committee, and the departure of outgoing chairman of the Association, Hugh McClung.

Hugh said: “Each year, tenants have the opportunity to hear first-hand the Council's Housing Service report, and this year proved even more successful than the previous year thanks to joint working with the Housing Services team and tenants representing the views of their communities.

“In addition, we had an excellent contribution from Councillor Evelyn Tweed who enlightened those present with both tales of her exploits in the past but also her vision for the future of the Housing Service.”

Housing and Development Service Manager, Carol Hamilton gave an overview of housing achievements that have been delivered over the previous year and the challenges for the coming year. Service Manager, John MacMillan then outlined the achievements and challenges in relation to maintaining and investing in the council’s housing stock.

Guest speaker Councillor Evelyn Tweed addressed delegates, explaining her role as Housing Portfolio Holder. She commended the work of the STA and set out her vision and commitment to inclusive and diverse tenant involvement for all.

Afterwards, Cllr Tweed added: “The Stirling Tenants Assembly carries out an important role for Council tenants. As Housing Portfolio Holder for Stirling Council I was delighted to speak at their conference about what I see as my vision for the Housing Service and how we can work together.

“It also gave me a chance to pay tribute to Mr Hugh McClung for his hard work in the role as Chair over the last 15 years. Hugh has done a tremendous amount of work and has left the STA in a strong place going forward.”

Following lunch, the appointment of the committee was officiated independently by the Tenant Participation Advisory Service.

Office Bearers will be appointed at the STA’s first committee meeting on 19 June
