Stirling continues to forge a reputation as a world class destination for major sporting and cultural events with another fantastic programme lined up this year.
High Profile Events

A number of high profile events have been held in Stirling over the past 12 months as event organisers take advantage of the high class venues on offer.

Having successfully delivered the second Stirling Marathon in April, Stirling is fast becoming a hub for major sporting events.

Among the exciting competitions to be held in the region over the coming months will include:

-    The Special Olympics which are taking place in August;
-    Parts of the Time Trial and Open Water Swim (at Loch Lomond) for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships;
-    The International Cross Country Championships in January 2019.

The new Stirling City Park venue has played a huge role in securing a number of these events – and will be exclusively used for the International Cross Country Championships.

The City Park is an attractive venue for event organisers, particularly due to its suitability to host large crowds, and iconic unique location at the foot of Stirling Castle.

The park will play host to over 40,000 spectators in August, when it welcomes Runrig for their final concert, attracting crowds from across the world.

In addition to hosting large one-off events, Stirling Council have a full programme of events throughout the year which will appeal to a variety of audiences. This includes:

-    Bloody Scotland, Scotland’s International Crime Writing Festival, returns for its seventh year;
-    Stirling Armed Forces Day, which this year feature the Red Devils and Stevie McCrorie;
-    Music festivals, including Doune the Rabbit Hole and Killin Music Festival;
-    Various Highland Games across the region;
-    The inaugural Killearn Children’s Book Festival;
-    Many more cultural events at The Tolbooth and The Albert Halls.

The year will come to a close with the Stirling Winter Festival, building on 2017’s success and kicking off celebrations for The National Wallace Monument’s 150 year anniversary in 2019.

Convenor of the Community Planning and Regeneration Committee, Councillor Chris Kane, said, “The success of events such as the Stirling Marathon and the Stirling Winter Festival has proven that the region is a fantastic location to host professionally run, enjoyable events that are accessible to a wide range of people.

“The vast scope and scale of the programme scheduled over the coming months will further showcase how attractive Stirling is as a location for high profile events.

“With such a vast array of top class locations, from Stirling Castle to the City Park, The Tolbooth and The Albert Halls, as well as our stunning rural areas, I am sure Stirling’s reputation for hosting high profile events will continue to flourish in the future.”
