An initiative aimed at getting children to keep up their reading over the summer has been launched in Stirling.
Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge

The Stirling Libraries’ Mischief Makers, Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge Scotland launched at Blairdrummond Safari Park on Wednesday.

“Mischief Makers,” is run by national charity The Reading Agency in partnership with Scotland’s libraries and Tesco Bank.

The challenge involves children reading six books during the summer holidays, a time when children’s literacy skills traditionally dip if they don’t have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure.

Each year The Reading Agency and libraries work together to create a new theme for the Challenge. This year The Reading Agency and libraries are working with Beano in their 80th anniversary year under the theme of ‘Mischief Makers,’ featuring one of Scotland’s favourite mischief makers, Dennis the Menace, along with Gnasher and friends.

Collecting stickers as they go, young readers will get incentives and rewards to gain entry to some of Stirling’s tourist and leisure venues, one of which is Blairdrummond Safari Park, where on completing the challenge the young readers will be given a free entry.

Other partners Stirling Libraries are working with include The Peak, McLaren Leisure, University of Stirling and Bellrock Balfron Campus and children can visit their local libraries and start reading and collecting rewards now.
