Rural residents are set to benefit from the extension of contracts for three bus routes serving their communities
Rural bus

Funded by Stirling Council to improve transport links for people living in rural areas, the services, which were introduced in December, will now run until 18 August 2018.

The services have been funded as part of a £140,000 growth investment pilot by Stirling Council to expand the scope and coverage of transport in rural areas. They were developed in partnership with local communities.

A shopping bus now runs on the first and third Saturday of each month from Tyndrum, Crianlarich, Killin, Lochearnhead, Kingshouse and Strathyre to Stirling City Centre and Springkerse Retail Park.

A bus now departs from Balfron at 6.20 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, enabling residents of Balfron, Buchlyvie, Arnprior, Kippen and Gargunnock to access evening leisure activities in Stirling without having to drive.  A return bus leaves at 10.45pm.

Another journey now leaves Stirling at 11.02 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, taking residents of Deanston, Doune and Callander home after an evening of leisure in Stirling.

The services will be carefully monitored and evaluated to make sure that they are meeting community needs and if well used, we hope they will be sustainable for the future.

Convenor of the Environment and Health Committee, Councillor Jim Thomson, said, “These bus services were launched after the council responded to local views over what bus services were needed for the area. I am delighted that the scheme has been extended and would encourage residents to use these services as much as possible.

“The extension of the bus service has been achieved using funds available from the £140k growth monies for rural transport, and these extra months will allow us to gather more information which will help us inform whether or not the scheme is viable moving forward.”
