Stirling Council has maintained its high standards of education provision for another year after today’s (Tuesday’s) SQA results showed consistent levels of attainment across the region’s schools.

The local authority has praised the hard work of its young people, teachers and school staff after this morning’s results mirrored last year’s high levels of achievement across the board.

Figures showed results for fourth year pupils achieving five awards at National 5 level are in line with last year’s results, which were the highest for the area since the introduction of National 5 qualifications in 2013/14.

Marginal increases were seen across the number of S5 pupils gaining five awards at National 5 while there is an improving trend in relation to the percentage of young people achieving a minimum of three Highers in S6.

These successes are also reflected in performance at Advanced Higher, which remains at a consistently high standard.

In addition to the SQA awards, young people from across the region have also celebrated success in vocational courses at colleges and work placements.

Overall, results have matched the high standards set in 2017, with work continuing across all schools to provide a well-rounded, holistic educational experience for Stirling’s young people.

Councillor Susan McGill, convenor of Stirling Council’s Children and Young People Committee, said: “Today’s results are a credit to everyone involved with our schools and I’d like to pay special thanks to not only our education staff, but our parents and carers who are so vital in helping our young people achieve such success.

“The high standards consistently set in our schools have been maintained this year and we are also seeing many of our young people use school and their results as a platform for further learning across education, work-based training and employment.

“We also know that exams can be stressful and this morning’s results may leave many pupils with further questions about their future so we encourage our parents and carers to provide support where necessary and direct our young people to the helplines available.”

Skills Development Scotland will assist candidates whose results did not match their expectations – for better or worse – with advisers ready to offer information on college and university vacancies as well as employment and training opportunities.

The Helpline, 0808 100 8000, will be open 8am-8pm on August 7 and 8, and then from 9am-5pm from August 9-15. For more information, visit www.myworldofwork.co.uk/examresults
