The Great Britain curling skip, who is based in Stirling at the National Curling Centre, was at the launch of the family-friendly event which forms part of the Stirling Scottish Marathon weekend on 28-29 April.

Eve, who competed at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang last month, said: “It’s always fantastic to see young people getting active and taking the first steps on what could be a successful athletics career.

“Stirling is a city that is known for its love of sport and Thistles Great Stirling Family Run is a brilliant addition to what will be a great weekend.”

Children aged between 3 and 16, along with their parents, are welcome to take part in the run around King’s Park on the Saturday, a day before more than 6,000 runners take on the Stirling Scottish Marathon and brand-new Stirling Scottish Half Marathon events which start and finish in the city centre.

Thistles, Stirling has returned for 2018 as event title sponsor, and Gary Turnbull, Centre Director, is delighted to be associated with the event for a second year.

He said: “The inaugural Thistles Great Stirling Family Run was a resounding success with a fantastic uptake in participation not only by local families, but by many from across the Central Belt too, and we are delighted to be continuing to support this year.

“The event is proving hugely popular and is a wonderful opportunity for children to feel involved in the wider events taking place across the city. It is a fun, sociable way for families to enjoy exercise together and Thistles, Stirling is very much looking forward to working with the organisers again to continue helping to build upon its success.”

Thistles Great Stirling Family Run kicks off at 10am and will be the main attraction of the day that also features live music, come and try it sports, food, drink and arts and crafts.

The weekend of events is organised by The Great Run Company in partnership with Stirling Council. Last year, it was estimated that £1.9million was raised for charity, with an economic impact of £1.4million to the city and wider area.

Stirling Council leader, Councillor Scott Farmer said: “We want people of all ages and all abilities to be as active as they can be, and the addition of Thistles Great Stirling Family Run provides a fantastic opportunity for children and their parents to become involved in the Stirling Marathon event.

“By hosting Thistles Great Stirling Family Run at King’s Park the day before the marathon and half marathon itself, and incorporating a wide array of other entertainment, we are broadening the appeal of the event even further and building on the success of the inaugural Stirling Marathon, which our local communities embraced in a huge way.”
