Young people from all over Stirling descended on the Albert Halls recently to celebrate the end of a successful term for former Member of Scottish Youth Parliament for Stirling Brian Iroegbu, and the election of the newly appointed MSYP for the area.

Those who attended the event on Friday 17th March were entertained by two young local musicians - Leo McCardle and Euan Gordon – and took part in a world café style activity where they were asked their opinion on transport, education, being young and growing up in Stirling, health and the environment.

The four potential MSYP guided the conversations at the café tables and the two MSYP elected - Ben Edwards and Angus McDonald - will use this information in a Stirling-wide planning session when they meet with Stirling Council Chief Executive Stewart Carruth at the end of May.

Fellow nominees Iona Wheeler and Tom Morley put a lot of hard work into the campaign and those involved in organising the event are keen to keep them involved in youth participation in Stirling.

Stirling Council’s Chief Education Officer Kevin Kelman said: “We are committed to developing youth participation in Stirling.  This was reflected at Friday’s MSYP election celebrations. It was good to hear Brian Iroegbu explain how his confidence had grown during his period of being the MSYP for Stirling.  This is an exciting time for youth participation in Stirling as we now have two new MSYP, Ben Edwards and Angus McDonald.  We are looking forward to seeing how our new MSYP influence local and national decision making during their time in office.  Congratulations to all involved.”
