Winner Rachel Preston and finalists Ben Roberts, Rachel Evens, Murray Dowey, Tyler Harrison, Lucy Flannigan, Luca Flannigan, Megan Hogg and Kian Jackson were given a tour of the hotel and the garden area.

Head pastry chef Balazs Gonda showed the youngsters how to properly decorate cupcakes.  They created roses and two different types of cactus cupcakes.  Head chef Darin Campbell then gave the pupils a tour of the Cromlix Gardens where they saw the variety of fruits and vegetables being grown, tasted some herbs and sampled some of the edible flowers.

Depute Head Teacher Shirley Gallivan said: "This was a fantastic experience for the children.  Having a session with Balazs, who is so passionate about what he does, totally enthused our young children.  They enjoyed spending time in a real kitchen with real chefs.

“Seeing what Cromlix are doing with this area was inspiring for our children.  A huge thank you to Cromlix for taking the time to host us."

Councillor Susan McGill, Stirling Council’s Education Committee Convener, said: “This is a first class example of the local community working with pupils to show them how to improve not only their baking skills but how growing herbs and produce can be used to create exciting dishes in the kitchen.

“I am also delighted that the school is currently developing its outside area and looking at the farm to fork process.”
