The family-friendly colourful parade ‘Time to Ring in the Bells’ started at 7pm last night, and travelled through the centre of Scotland's ancient capital featuring costumes and lanterns from local community groups, students, children and artists.

Once the parade reached Port Street in the city centre, they were also treated to dance and music by a variety of street performers until 9pm.

Later at midnight, fireworks were set off near Stirling Castle which were visible across the Stirling skyline to mark the start of 2017.

This year's celebrations followed the successful family-friendly event held for the first time in Stirling last year. Stirling Provost Mike Robbins said: "The aim was to provide something the whole family could enjoy together and judging by the crowds and the smiles on the faces of tonight's participants we certainly achieved that.

"The parade was an eye-catching spectacle with the entertainment in Port Street adding to the fun. Of course the fireworks from the Castle at midnight itself are at the heart of Stirling's Hogmanay celebrations and I hope many more locals and visitors enjoyed them too. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and peaceful 2017."
