Children and families recently celebrated the 2017 launch of Wrigley’s Litter Less campaign, at an event held in Cornton Nursery.
Cornton Nursery Children

Parents, grandparents, and pupils from nearby Cornton Primary School were all invited to participate in a community litter pick, to mark the beginning of activities for the 2016/2017 Wrigley Litter Less campaign, involving children at 29 nurseries across Scotland in campaigns to improve environmental quality in their communities.

Each participating nursery will receive £200 courtesy of the Wrigley Company Foundation to run their own campaign, with support from Keep Scotland Beautiful. Cornton applied for the funding to help support their monthly ‘Fly Away’ community action days where nursery, school and community partners become reporters, photographers, and litter pickers to make Cornton a safer and cleaner place to grow up in.

Head of Cornton Nursery Kate O'Neill said "We are so excited to be hosting the launch of the Wrigley Litter Less campaign for 2016/2017 and happy to have been chosen as one of the participating nurseries.  Not only are we launching our Litter Less campaign today, we are also launching our journey towards our Eco-Schools Green Flag Award."

Education Convenor Alistair Berrill said: “Litter is one of the afflictions of modern life. How often have we all fumed at the sight of some selfish person thoughtlessly throwing down litter in the street? This is a great initiative that teaches children how to keep their immediate environment looking good.”

Kerr McConnell, Education & Learning Coordinator at Keep Scotland Beautiful said: “We are delighted to be working with Cornton Nursery School this year as part of our annual Litter Less campaign.  The children will join, those from 28 nurseries in Scotland, and hundreds of thousands of other young people across the world to benefit from this international campaign to raise awareness of littering, its effect on the environment and to create good examples of waste management. We look forward to seeing what innovative ideas the children have to tackle the issue and raise awareness in their wider community.”

Litter Less is an annual campaign organised in Scotland by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful on behalf of the Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE) and sponsored by the Wrigley Company Foundation in 27 countries worldwide. Litter Less activities run throughout the whole year and are being delivered as part of the Eco-Schools Scotland programme. Internationally, Litter Less involves over 400,000 children and young people and over 13,500 educators.
