At an event in the Council Headquarters at Old Viewforth on 1st February, the former Lord Lieutenant’s career was celebrated with representatives from various community groups and organisations in the Falkirk and Stirling areas, including Falkirk Provost Pat Reid.
Appointed by Her Majesty The Queen in 2005, Mrs Marjory McLachlan was the Lord Lieutenant of Stirling & Falkirk and Her Majesty’s representative in the area for 12 years.
Provost Mike Robbins said: “I have greatly enjoyed working with Marjory over the years. Her dedication to her role as Lord Lieutenant has been admirable and she has taken a real interest in participating in all events and activities going on within her Lieutenancy area.”
As Her Majesty's personal representatives in the area, the Lord Lieutenant’s prime duty is to uphold the dignity of the Crown, by arranging all visits by the Royal family to Stirling and Falkirk; representing The Queen to present certain honours, medals and awards; liaising with local units of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, Royal Air Force and their associated cadet forces; ensuring The Queen’s Private Office is kept informed about local issues and participating in civic, voluntary and social activities in the area.
The Queen has now appointed former Deputy Lieutenant Alan Simpson OBE as the new Lord Lieutenant for Stirling and Falkirk, who will take up the role on Wednesday 15th February 2017.
