n 2015 the PTA from Killearn wanted to improve access and create a safer route to Killearn Primary School. They were awarded funding to install a footpath from Beech Drive to the back gate of the school.
Following discussions with Council officers during the construction of the path, PTA members expressed a desire to extend the path network to Graham Road. This was then taken on as a capital project by Stirling Council using Civic Realm funding, and the extension has now been completed by Council Roads and Land officers.
Killearn Primary PTA member Heidi Bryce said: “The Killearn Primary Parent Council were delighted to work with Stirling Council to complete the first part of the safe routes to school travel plan. It completes work begun in conjunction with Sustrans and the Clackmannanshire Environmental Trust by improving traffic free access through the village. This has a positive impact on the wider community too.”
Stirling Council Environment Convenor Danny Gibson said: “The reason Councillors created the Civic Realm improvements budget was precisely to swiftly fund this type of work which might otherwise have struggled to attract funding from elsewhere. The enthusiasm of the PTA members and school staff for improving the routes to Killearn Nursery and Primary was clear to see and I wish them continued success. With the community, school and Council all working together this has achieved a fantastic result all round."
