Arnprior, Cowie, Killin and Crianlarich, Hillview and Raploch Nurseries have been praised for their high quality of early learning and childcare after visits from the Care Inspectorate. The nurseries were assessed across categories including quality of care and support, quality of environment, quality of staffing and quality of management and leadership.
Arnprior Nursery and Hillview Children and Family Service both achieved ‘Excellent’ ratings, the best possible grade, in all areas in which they were inspected. Arnprior Nursery received praise for its social skills development and inclusive approach to learning, while staff at Hillview Children and Family Service were complimented for their “excellent approach to individual children’s needs”.
Cowie Nursery had all four areas studied and achieved a ‘Very Good’ grade in each, with no requirements or recommendations necessary. Areas receiving praise included preparing children for school, promoting a flexible use of the environment, having staff with a range of experience who felt valued, and having a management team who introduced a programme of monitoring in a planned and gradual way.
Both Killin and Crianlarich, and Raploch Nurseries received ‘Very Good’ ratings for the quality of care and support they provided, with each nursery praised for having “happy” and “confident” children. Killin and Crianlarich received further praise for the quality of their staff, while Raploch Nursery were commended for their quality of management and leadership.
Stirling Council’s Education Committee Convener, Councillor Susan McGill, said: “These Care Inspectorate reports highlight the motivation and dedication of the staff team, resulting in the provision of a learning environment which addresses the needs of the children allowing them to excel. The children, staff and wide community should, rightly, be very proud of these achievements.”
Final reports are published on the Care Inspectorate website and are made available in nurseries for parents and carers to read.
Each year the Care Inspectorate inspects and reports on the quality of early learning and childcare in a sample of different education centres. All inspections are unannounced and reports are published approximately two weeks after inspection.
