Hamish Scott-Brown and Katherine Rushent planned to marry in a small, intimate ceremony with very close family and friends in Aberfoyle Registry Office’s Marriage Room on Friday 24th March 2017.
However it was only at the eleventh hour that they realised in conversation with staff that two of the key people attending the ceremony would be unable to get up the stairs, meaning the groom’s dad wouldn’t be able to attend.
Luckily Aberfoyle Registrar Sharon Johnston remembered the space downstairs in the Visit Scotland shop, where she recently held a Wedding Fayre. She and Hamish went down to speak to Visit Scotland’s Colin McRae who quickly sprang into action to make the room suitable for the wedding. Collette of Callander Covers also stepped in and provided not only chair sashes, runners and floral decorations, but also a red carpet leading the way in from the double doors to the wedding area.
The marriage ceremony happily went ahead – and was the first to ever take place under the vaulted ceiling in Aberfoyle’s Discovery Centre. Even better, the groom’s father was able to walk every step of the way unaided, to address the happy couple.
Stirling Council Registrar Sharon Johnston said: “It would have been unthinkable not to have the Groom’s father at the wedding! I saw it as part of my job to find a solution and I am once again very grateful to Colin and the Visit Scotland team - their support really does make things possible!”
Visit Scotland’s Colin McRae said: “Individual commitment to group effort is what makes a team work. We are proud this special occasion was so successful and that Sharon is part of the team here in Aberfoyle.”
