Angling Active have attracted some of the best fly-tying specialists from around the UK to the free event, which will run from 10.30am to 3.30pm on the day, at the Stirling Agriculture Centre.

Many disciplines of fly fishing flies will be on show and everyone is invited to come and meet the tyers, ask them what they are using and how they do it. Prizes will also be available on the day, including signature flies tied on the day, a day of Salmon fishing on the Newtyle Beat of the River Tay provided by the Scottish Salmon Fishing Surgery and a permit for one year of free fishing an entire year of free fishing on the Stirling Council Fisheries water on either the River Teith or the River Forth. Proceeds from raffles sold on the day will be donated to Strathcarron Hospice.

Pro tyers Sean Stanton, John Richardson, Peter McCallum, Sandy Dickson, Darryl Mooney, Allan Liddle, Alex Wilke (Rook), Craig McDonald, Euan Miller, Phil Varney, Scott Kane and Stuart Smith will be in attendance, along with special guest tyers Ali Hutchens and Jo Stephenson, who will be tying some signature patterns.

Jo – a self-described ‘fishing obsessive’ - will also be helping the Stirling Council Fisheries Team promote the opening event for the River Teith’s fishing season in Callander on the 1st February, at which she will be guest of honour.

Stirling Council Fisheries Officer Scott Mason said: “This is shaping up to be a fantastic event with some of the best specialist travelling from as far as the south of England to attend. Angling Active are expecting a large attendance on the 17th so it is the perfect opportunity for us to promote opening day on the 1st February 2017 - especially with Jo in attendance. Angling Active are huge supporters of Stirling Council Fisheries so it is great to work in partnership again.”

Stirling Council Environment Convenor Danny Gibson said: “Our Fisheries staff have been very successful in preserving the Teith and its fish stocks, the iconic salmon in particular. We are committed to responsible management of our waterways while also seeking to extend opportunities to enjoy the angling experience to as many adults and youngsters as possible, and events like these are a fantastic opportunity for local anglers to find out more and get involved.”
