The Bridgend Public Toilets closed in 2011 after a Comfort Partnership scheme was established, allowing the public to access toilets in the local library, Burgh Chambers and Tappit Hen public house.
However it became clear this was a valuable facility to the community, and following an update to the Council’s Finance and Economy Committee earlier this year, councillors agreed to pay the estimated £16-£18,000 cost of bringing the building back up to standard as well as estimated annual operating costs of £8,200 once they are reopened.
Discussions will continue with the community over how the building will be managed in terms of opening and closing and cleaning.
Finance and Economy Committee Convenor, Councillor Neil Benny, said: "I am glad that we have revised our policy of closing public toilets. These are facilities that are essential for shoppers and visitors. This kind of service is core to what the council does and we mean to do it well."
